KOKRAJHAR: In a historic event, two successful operations on hip and thrombolysis was carried out for the first time by two doctors of Rupnath Brahma Civil Hospital, Kokrajhar couple of days back.

Dr. Pranjal Kalita, a surgeon conducted the successful hip surgery of a patient Aishya Begum (60 years) of Mokrapara village of Kokrajhar on December 16 while Dr. Tejashi BL carried out successful Thrombolysis operations of a stroke patient Bibhuti Karmakar of Sapotgram, Dhubri district which are the first successful operations in civil hospital in Assam.

Talking to mediapersons, the Superintendent of RN Brahma Civil Hospital Dr A Sarma said it was a pride moment for the civil hospital, Kokrajhar that two doctors of the hospital successfully carried out hip and thrombolysis operations which are generally not done in civil hospitals. He said the two doctors carried out the operations at their efforts by helping the poor people. He thanked both the doctors for the successful operations.

Dr Pranjal Kalita said he carried out the hip replacement operation with the help of Dr. Chandan Pathak. The patient came from a very poor economic background and approached him for operation, he said adding that he himself managed to buy the surgery instruments and replaced the hip which could have been of much higher cost in private hospitals. He also said the patient was still in the hospital and was improving.
